Movie Vivah is all about marriage of girl Poonam (Amrita Rao) with Prem (Shahid Kapoor). Bito (Amrita Rao’s nick) is brought up by her Chacha (Alok Nath). Poonam being fair than her younger sister (real daughter of her chacha), was not favorite of her aunt (Seema Biswas).Later, Mr. Harishchandra (Anupam Kher), a famous and rich industrialist of New Delhi, gets proposal for his son Prem’s (Shahid Kapoor) marriage with Poonam. In start, Prem hesitates with the idea of marriage, but later he agrees to see the girl and entire family goes to MadhupurOn first meeting itself, both Prem and Poonam likes each other and both agree for the marriage. The same day, they get engaged to eachother, as Prem’s family had come with full preparations. I guess they knew Prem would say yes for marriage, which is 6 months later from the day of engagement.
Days before marriage
Finally the 6 months gap passes away with boring songs, and old fashioned way of sending letters.
Poonam’s uncle (chacha) does his best for the preparations of the marriage of his beloved daughter Bito. Poonam’s aunt does not turn up for the marriage functions, as she never liked Poonam from the start and also she dint like Poonam getting married in rich family.
Finally the marriage day
Everything was going on smoothly at Madhupur and also Mr Harishchandra and Prem’s barat were ready to leave. But, Poonam’s uncle’s house catches fire. While saving her younger sister, Poonam gets caught in fire and burns up her body, saving her face.
Does she die? Will Prem marry her? Does this Vivah happen? That’s the suspense for you to watch the movie.
To sum up the entire movie:
The movie is stretched for 3 hrs, for no reason. If the movie was made without songs and reduced to 1 hr 30 minutes, it might have reduced the boredom on the viewers and may be have recieved much better response.
Story: A very simple story, with no twists and turns. Story was pretty short, which was stretched for 3 long hrs.
Message: Vivah has a very good message on relations.
Flaws: Movie has lots of flaws in it, which created a comic atmosphere.
Acting: All actors played their role well. Amrita Rao, Shahid Kapoor, Alok Nath, Anupam Kher, Seema Biswas and all other characters did justification to their roles.
The role of Anupam Kher, being a kind and down to earth person despite being rich, and role of Amrita rao as a daughter is very well cultivated in the movie.
Music: The music was completely outdated. Specially the song “Mujhe Huck hain…” being repeated throughout the movie.
Ideal viewers: Movie is not at all for younger generation. It may be liked by people of age group 40 above.
Rating: 1.5 out of 5.
